Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is rare form of cancer

Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is rare form of cancer that affects the peritoneum, which is the lining of the abdomen. Diagnosis of peritoneal mesothelioma is similar to that of pleural mesothelioma. An x-ray will be taken. The life expectancy of someone with malignant peritoneal mesothelioma varies from person to person.

At CT, malignant peritoneal mesothelioma typically appears as a solid, enhancing soft-tissue mass within the mesentery, omentum, or peritoneum. These latter metastases may develop dystrophic calcifications, which are unlikely to occur with malignant peritoneal mesothelioma. Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare but highly malignant abdominal tumor. Progression of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma to clinically evident disease is poorly understood. Malignant Peritoneal Mesothelioma (MPM) is an uncommon tumour.
